May 2020 — The NH Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) has awarded Absolute Resource Associates (ARA) of Portsmouth, NH a three year $2 million dollar contract for PFAS testing services.

Over the next three years, ARA will provide Laboratory Analytical Services to identify and quantify Per–and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in environmental samples for NH State Agencies and other eligible participants. ARA is accredited to analyze PFAS by EPA Method 537.1, and according to CEO Guy Sylvester, plans are in the works to bring other methods on board soon.

Per–and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (aka PFAS, PFOA, PFOS, C-8, “Forever Chemicals”) are chemical compounds among a class of emerging contaminants of concern within the environmental community. Experts are studying the widespread impacts of PFAS in the environment, and their potential to cause harm to human health. NHDES is engaged in an ongoing investigation into the prevalence of PFAS in NH drinking water. To learn more about PFAS or request testing services, visit PFASresource.com.
