Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds

The concentrations of Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds (SVOCs) are determined by extracting the sample then analyzing the extract using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

Method 8270 is used when analyzing surface and ground water as well as solid sample matrices. Method 625 is used for waste water samples. The compounds that make up the reported analyte list can be separated into three groups: acids, bases and neutrals. When the complete list of compounds is requested, it is generally referred to as "ABN". A subset of analytes from the Base/Neutral group is commonly requested. These compounds are the Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons, also known as a "PAH".
